Our Commitment to a Smaller Footprint, Sustainability at the heart of A Fine Pair of Shoes
At A Fine Pair of Shoes (AFPOS), we’re proud to do things a little differently. While we’re best known for timeless footwear and personal service, there’s something else we’ve been quietly building over the past few years: a more sustainable way of doing business.
We believe that great shoes shouldn’t cost the earth. That’s why we’ve taken meaningful steps to reduce our carbon footprint across our operations, from solar-powered warehousing to recyclable packaging, and responsible delivery choices.
Powered by the Sun
Our journey starts at the heart of our operations, our warehouse and HQ. In 2021, we installed a full solar power and battery storage system on-site. This allows us to generate and store clean electricity for our daily needs, dramatically reducing our reliance on fossil fuels. Whether we're fulfilling your orders or replying to customer emails, the chances are it’s now powered by sunshine.
Smarter Packaging Choices
It’s not just what’s inside the box that matters. We’ve overhauled our packaging to be as eco-friendly as possible:
-
Recycled cardboard boxes: All our shipping boxes are made from recycled materials.
-
Fully recyclable packaging: From tissue to tape, we choose materials you can responsibly recycle at home.
-
Brown paper tape: We’ve said goodbye to plastic based tapes in favour of biodegradable paper alternatives.
Our aim is to make it easy for you to enjoy your order without worrying about waste.
Greener Shipping
Shipping goods will always have an environmental impact, but we can reduce it by choosing partners who share our values. That’s why we work with carbon-neutral shipping providers like DPD and UPS, both of whom invest in carbon offset programs and fleet decarbonisation.
Working with Sustainable Suppliers
We work with all our suppliers to make sure sustainability is at the core of their business too, in environmentally conscious sourcing of vegetable tanned leather, to the use of water based glues and also driving their businesses to be as efficient and low carbon as possible, for example Astorflex, Trickers, Berwick 1707, Paraboot
A Work in Progress
We’re proud of the progress we’ve made, but we know sustainability is an ongoing effort. From sourcing more local suppliers to reducing waste in our supply chain, we’re always looking for ways to improve.
We may be a small, independent business, but we believe small steps, taken consistently, can add up to something meaningful. When you choose to shop with us, you’re supporting not just quality craftsmanship, but a business that genuinely cares about the future.
