We have wanted a properly British-made boot at a fair price for a long time. The Newman & Regent x AFPOS range is it: three styles, two leathers, all made in Kettering, Northamptonshire, and all £295.

The range is available to pre-order now, with the full size run from 5 to 12 start arriving from mid December.

Who is Newman & Regent?

Newman & Regent is a Kettering shoemaker with a history tied to the Newman Street factory and a shoemaking legacy dating back to 1873. Kettering sits at the heart of Northamptonshire’s footwear industry, and the factory still builds shoes there today. We worked with them on a short, focused range rather than a long catalogue, so every detail was decided with a specific boot in mind.

The three boots

Geddington Moc-toe Boot. The moc-toe is a late 19th century work boot style, trusted by farmers, loggers and hunters. The Geddington keeps the stitched toe and adds a lightweight white Vibram Christy sole for cushioning underfoot. It is the most casual of the three and works with jeans, chinos and heavy knitwear.

Harringworth Cap Toe Boot. The cap toe is the classic British boot shape. Ours has a Dainite Ranger Flex sole, which is flexible and grips well in wet weather, so it is the one to choose for daily wear through the UK winter.

Thrapston Plain Toe Boot. A clean, uninterrupted toe with no unnecessary detailing. It is the most understated of the three and the easiest to dress up or down.

All three are built on last 1426, with 360-degree Goodyear welted construction, a wooden shank and cork filling. That construction means the boots can be resoled rather than replaced.

Two leathers, both from C. F. Stead of Leeds

Every boot comes in two leathers from C. F. Stead, the Leeds tannery.

Dark Caramel Oiled Shoulder is a supple, oil-rich leather with a natural grain. It has a subtle pull-up effect, so the colour lightens and deepens as the leather flexes and develops its own character. Shop it in the Geddington, Harringworth or Thrapston.

Butterum Waxy Commander has a rich colour and a waxed finish. It has a soft, slightly suede-like nap and wears in beautifully with use. Shop it in the Geddington, Harringworth or Thrapston.

Both are low-maintenance. Our oiled and waxy leather care guide covers how to look after them.

How we kept the price at £295

We kept the welt, the leather and the sole, and built a short range to hold every style and colour at £295.

Which one should you buy?

  • Want the most versatile everyday boot? Harringworth.
  • Want the most casual, comfortable option? Geddington.
  • Want the cleanest look? Thrapston.
  • Unsure on leather? Dark Caramel is the safer choice with most outfits. Butterum is warmer and lighter.
